Print/Poster
8.5 x 11”
This print piece was made to reflect the message of an episode of the series Beyond the Canvas aired on PBS. This special covered the works of black female artists.
One of the main focuses of this episode was the role racism played a part in the lack of recognition these contributions received.
One of the focuses of this poster was to invoke the spirit of collage and layered imagery. The first layer was created by layering images of newspaper print and then inverting the colors to create a dark background. This was then laid over a texture of crumpled paper.
A halftone stamp inspired font was chosen to further enforce the idea of a physical collage for the text layers.
The large imagery at the front of the piece connected the title of the piece with the message of the special that inspired it.
